Ancient Malawi's Tomasi Bona (Atom) "spirit" projected himself into 4 including Pikinini Langwani

This blog will now be repeating oral stories about “Kuba” which some Sapitwa healers insist is Mt Namuli in Mozambique but this blog is not endorsing the beliefs but just trying to capture some never ever told before oral stories from the days before the borders of our countries were created.

A spirit (mizimu) from the “heavens” above suddenly enters the M’manga Mudzi anthill mpolowoni tree which suddenly explodes with lightning throughout that world to begin a creation is an ancient oral story told to this blog by a Sapitwa healer.

It’s through this lightning in a termite mound where the other mythical 6 spirits with Tomasi Bona (Atom) as the 7th came into being. These were different from Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God) whom the ancestors believed was up above and beyond the sun and not on earth.

Tomasi Bona’s name means something like the whole world in his hands and feast drawn with a circle and cross which in English would probably be the equivalent of “All and Nothing”.

The other 6 spirits with Tomasi Bona of the North Wind as the seventh are the 4 positive male charges of Tagoneka Mbona of the West Wind, Chandiona Goneka of the South Wind, Nthanda mwana wa mwezi of the East (Sirius, child of the moon) and the three negative female charges of Sungamwana (keep the child) and Dziwe Ntambamwana (witchcraft pool) and Ife Zonse (All of us).

The 4 winged spirits and three winged ones are drawn like an African cross to mean the 4 winds (mphepo zinayi) and in the middle is an upright spirit serpent for healing to draw some kind of a right triangle.
The African cross also represented a star called Nthanda yaku m’mawa by Sapitwa healers which is the star from the east although another definition is morning star but theirs is Sirius.
For the ancient healers of Malawi, this star was the same shape as their “primitive” African cross of the 4 winds of North, South, West and East and they played on this by associating all from the East as being from Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God).
The 4 winds of Sapitwa cross is also drawn with 4 hidden right triangles to represent the four mythical winged spirits out of 7 spirits with the 3 forming a triangle within it and an upright serpent spirit in the middle to represent royalty just like in other beliefs on the continent.

These healers believe in a Creator of this Universe they call Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe etc and they claim 4 male spiritual beings with a positive charge and 3 female spiritual beings with a negative charge to make a total of 7 pull each other to create Light including lightning.
According to this blog’s own Sapitwa mythology, in the beginning there was a world of spirits in water and elsewhere for an unknown time maybe millions of years including the winged ones which have never been human and those who went on to occupy other “worlds” including earth.

On earth the spirit (mizimu) said to have existed in the beginning was Tomasi Bona (atom) or a word which sounds like atomic mass.
He’s said to have originated elsewhere into a primordial mound/anthill as electrical energy with water bodies below since in the beginning they believed there was water and spirits which lived in water because for them termite mounds are a good indicator of ground water.
From there he is said to have exploded like lightning into other spirits in twos and this lightning was throughout the new created world.
Under the M’manga mudzi anthill tree or mound there was said to be several water bodies which healers refer to as Nyanja and inside that mound the Tomasi Bona spirit is believed to look like an elderly man (munthu) who evolved from a serpent spirit in oral tales.

Now mpolowoni is the main tree and udindo (responsibility of ancient Malawi’s first winged spirit called Tomasi Bona (atom). M’manga mudzi is the one used for kusilika grounds before some sacred dances by digging it into the dirt they say while msamba mwana is used during childbirth.
According to a plant expert, mpolowoni in English is known as the Steganotaenia Araliacea tree and its family name is Umbelliferae.
Now this Tomasi Bona is said to have 4 heads (mutu) from which he projected himself from the One. These include Pikinini Langwani which healers translate as child and giant and Biton.  This blog will not reveal the other 2 female names for now until it has finished researching this latest information.
According to the oral tales, this projection was always in 2s with a man and a woman just like pigeons (nkhunda) come in 2s claim healers.

Now from those 4 heads are 3 others said to be at Machemba on Mulanje Mountain and these are Khumbi, Nthipe and Mpingo.
Rural Mulanje is also home to other tales about a mysterious Nthipe river which flows from Sapitwa, the highest peak to Dziwe la Nkhalamba. Nthipe is also a bird called Cormorant.
In fact bird experts say the word Nthipe refers to the White Breasted Cormorant, the Reed Cormorant and the African Darter.
Now in ancient Malawi myths tales, this river was the place where the soul was supposedly transported to the underworld which had two directions…one to the right which symbolized those from the east and those from the darkness which symbolized all those from the west.
In these “primitive” beliefs the soul would go through Sapitwa and a process involving a map through the rumoured underworld there and Nthipe was like “Two Face”.

In ancient “Egypt” beliefs the Netcher referred to as “Turn Face” prepared “to transport the soul of the deceased across a river through the underworld”, while the Greeks had a “fiesty boatman named Charon whose job was to transport souls across the river in the underworld”, further reads a book this blog has seen.
However with the coming in of mainstream religions most Malawians don’t believe that and are known to be God-fearing so the myths and tales remain forever a part of our ancient history.
However for a few villagers in Mulanje, they still believe such myths and talk of the souls going through a river or stream on the mountain before it gets to the east in the astral realm of Sapitwa or the west which is a mountain in another nearby country nicknamed “Kuba.”

Now the main spirit of “Kuba” which is actually Mt Namuli in Mozambique is said to be Pikinini Langwani but this blog would appreciate if Mozambican owners of that culture clarify or correct this.
There is also another rock known as “Makatana” which this blog is trying to figure out its location as offerings (nsembe) of snuff (fodya) are said to have been made there.
There are also 3 other sacred places in Zimbabwe some healers talk about including Mt Inyangani or Mt Nyangani where something happened to a very cruel foreigner some centuries ago who was accused of trying to “steal secrets”.
Now in a similar belief which is in ancient Egypt (Kemet) literature captured in a book about the Nile Valley, the world was said to have been created by the Ennead, a group of 9 Netcherw.  The Netcher Atum (Atom) whose name means ” All and Nothing”, projected himself into cosmic existence and then produced from his body four complementary pair of Netcherwy.  They were:
1.  Shu (Air)
2.  Tefnut (Moisture)
3.  Geb (Earth)
4.  Nut (Sky)
These four were said to have given birth to four other Netcherwy  which were:
5.  Ausar (the Principle of Omnipotence)
6. Aset (Female Complement of Ausar)
7. Set (Principle of Opposition)
8. Nebt-Het (Female Complement of Set)

Some online sources describe March in other calendars as being a “division of the calendar based on the phases of the moon.”
This is also a typical Sapitwa teaching where their month begins in March and they use the word “dula” like in kudula, to cut to mean divide in the same way one would do when they say they’ve missed their menstrual cycle which is connected to the moon.
They say by the time one says that, there’s already a being and that means women might be carrying babies longer than the 9 months..
It also had the word NGANGA on top although in Malawi the word sing’anga is more familiar to define a traditional healer.

E=mc2……Ancient Malawi’s Tomasi Bona (Atom) creation tales

Malawi is a beautiful land rich in ancient history and tales about spiritual beings (mizimu) which were close to chosen women who were given the gift of ancient African prophecy (ulosi wakale).
This blog attempts to update an oral story told by some Sapitwa healers in Mulanje of a time many centuries ago before floods when creation began on a mound by spirits which they say existed way before that.
 Once again, this blog is not endorsing this oral story and names used here are not the same ones used in other ancient Malawi stories.

This is the myth and 'bush' science told to this blog:

A young woman trying to sleep in the middle of the night suddenly feels faint and collapses into deep sleep and has a strange dream or vision.
She sees a bright light above her in the sky and in front an elderly man with white hair dressed in very bright white clothing with wrinkles clearly defining his face and slanting eyes which resemble a leopard.
His loud voice speaking with an echo hits her ears as one message is repeated over and over again with the echo.
As if looking through a bright tunnel and towards the sun, the young woman in her dream tries to look at this bright being up above and before her with eyes like a leopard.
And then suddenly as if with a big bang he speaks, his loud voice echoing loudly with a message about the things he hates most.
She looks up and still sees this elderly man in white staring at her as he says something like:
“Ine ndimadana ndi anthu amene amanyoza mizimu chifukwa mizimu yonse ndi yanga” [I don’t get along with people who insult spirits (souls) because all spirits (souls) are mine].
Startled the woman notices the elderly man’s face looking very angry as it disappears into the distance until she’s left in pitch darkness with an image of an angry leopard.
This “vision” was shared with this blog not as an endorsement but as a way of documenting ancient beliefs as told by the very few who still follow or believe in them.

Now this vision in the oral story is that of the hidden one but this blog cannot share his name which is a hidden word but only that it’s a mythical kingdom that is said to have existed before time in ancient Malawi myths and tales….in other words way before Tomasi Bona’s (atom) creation.

According to Macphilip Chikapa on Facebook reacting to a post about it, mpolowoni can be used as a warm compress to “massage an injured body part (kunthowa in Chichewa) by removing the central stem and the outer sheath burnt on fire.”
“Since it has more concentration of water (the outer sheath it heats up the water content in it, by getting out from the fire after been heated you blow air with the mouth through the hole pointing toward the injured part. The heated moist air comes out from it and massages the injured part”, he explained.
And a female healer in the village in Mulanje explained that mpolowoni is some kind of “bush” science.
“Chochepa chimakulitsidwa ndi kuima pamwamba anthu apansi azafuula ngati mphambe mpolowoni,” she explains.
In a nutshell it means a small thing is made big by standing on top and the people (anthu but mizimu like in spirits) below will shout like thunder mpolowani which is like lightning.
The above Chichewa saying also briefly means “as above so below.”
What is the meaning of this “Tarot Card”
for as above so below online may I ask?
Is it good or bad?
Some of our ancestors believed that mpolowani is like lightning in a zigzag from above to hit the ground like “fire” with positive and negative charges hence their “primitive” beliefs that mizimu (spirits) operate or appear with lightning.
So the priestess would symbolically hold the mpolowani upward while the other hand was pointing downwards.  This position might be global as it is evident in some painting and statues throughout the world.
Now the ancestors claimed that before Mbona, one of the mythical 7 winged spirits of ancient Malawi appeared there would be a white bright light that would blind the eyes and by the time one opened them they would see him.
Now within the mythical 7 mizimu (spirits) of ancient Malawi were the mythical 4 winds of Sapitwa (mphepo zinayi) and Mount Mulanje among others which were a positive charge (+).  The first 4 positive charges were:
1.Tomasi Bona (atom, world in his hands, feast) of the North Wind
  1. Tagoneka Mbona (we’ve put to sleep Mbona, see) of the West Wind
  2. Chandiona Goneka (it’s seen me put to sleep) of the South Wind
  3. Nthanda mwana wa mwezi (Sirius, child of the moon)
And the 3 negative charges (-) pulling with the 4 to make light were:
  1. Sungamwana (keep the child)
  2. Dziwe Ntambamwana (demonic witchcraft pool)
  3. Ife Zonse ( all of us)
All these are today drawn by some healers using ufa woyera (refined white maize flour) or mapira like in sorghum at a right angle.  So from this one can do the math to calculate something similar to:
“I am One that transforms
into Two
I am Two that transforms
into Four
I am Four that transforms
into Eight
After this I am One,” about ancient Egypt’s Atum.

The simple maths these uneducated village women calculated involve Tomasi Bona (atom) as the mythical one winged spirit (mizimu) below in the mount splitting into 2 to make 4 which includes the one spirit from above and then splitting into another 2 to make 6 and finally another 2 to make a total of 8 with 1 above and 7 below.
For them mizimu (spirits) always split into or form into twos like pigeons (nkhunda) whom they claim are always born in twos with a male and female creating an opposite charge of positive and negative with One and Two being the important numbers of ancient Malawi’s Tomasi Bona.
This blog is investigating to see if ancient Malawi’s “bush” science is similar to the equation E=MC2 first demonstrated on paper by Albert Einstein in 1905.

The ‘E’ stands for energy and the ‘M’ stands for mass. The ‘C’ stands for the speed of light, which is in the ballpark of 186,000 miles per second (about 300,000 kilometers per second) when it travels through a vacuum according to Nasa.

Now ancient Malawi’s Tomasi Bona spirit was nicknamed Atom or atomu and his name meant he had the world in his hands and feast.  He was also known as Mbewula which for local healers means to run away so fast or get away.
They use that term because they claim Tomasi Bona is the strongest and most powerful of the 7 earthly spirits in their oral tales.  He is the ancient elderly spirit with white hair which used to appear at Dziwe la Nkhalamba with clothes in various oral stories villagers in Mulanje talk about.
However they say Tomasi Bona is not Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God) whom they say is up above in the sky and beyond the sun in a place where mortal beings cannot go.

The other mizimu (spirits) are Tagoneka Mbona of the West, Chandiona Goneka of the South and Nthanda mwana wa mwezi of the East.
All these spirits involve maths and equations but the ancient Malawi equation does not include Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God).
The Creator for them remained hidden and they went through spirits to send messages including ancestral spirits and their deceased kings whom they thought became like gods. 
Now Tomasi Bona leads the four positive charged ones of the mountain and three negative ones of water but they rotate with one negative energy one doing good.
The four positive male charges are said to pull the three negative female ones to produce Light say healers.  This bush science is also used to explain lightning (mphenzi) and how the mythical four winds of Sapitwa (mphepo zinayi) work.
This is the reason why Sungamwana (keep the child) of the three female negative charged ones was said to do good unlike Dziwe Ntambamwana who is said to be in the pool of Dziwe la Nkhalamba which is also viewed as a place for ziwanda (demons) who in myths guard the entrance to the other world somewhere on a rock there.

David Cook, a meteorologist at Argonne National Laboratory says online that “90 percent of all lightning strokes are negative strokes, meaning that they were initiated by a large concentration of negative charge in the cloud-base; this tends to induce an area of positive charge on the ground.
“The positive lightning stroke is exactly the opposite, with a positive charge concentration in the base of the cloud inducing a negatively charged area on the ground. Positive strokes are most common in severe thunderstorms just prior to tornado formation and are being studied heavily now as possible predictors of severe weather and tornado formation,” he says.

Ancient Malawi's Napolo was Tomasi Bona (Atom)....just like Egypt's Atum

Ancient Malawi’s Napolo’s real name was Tomasi Bona the spirit (mizimu) responsible for the North wind and connected to myths and tales about rain, floods and landslides.

Napolo is a destructive serpent spirit believed to live in mountains, hills and mounds but he is NOT Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God) who only does good and does not harm his creation in ancient oral stories.

Ancestors believed that the Creator lived beyond the sun and way up in the sky.

Tomasi Bona’s name means he has the "world in his hands" and a "feast".  In myths and tales he was believed to fight to get back what he lost in the end.

According to oral stories, he originated from one of the M’manga Mudzi termite looking mounds somewhere in Malawi and a lake and plenty of water is believed to be underneath it.

His symbol is a circle with a cross inside meaning complete and what goes around comes around meaning in the end there would be destruction using water.

As explained in an earlier blog, Tomasi Bona also known as atom or aTomu is the mythical elderly spirit believed to lead 7 others known as Tagoneka Mbona of the West wind and sunset, Chandiona Goneka of the South wind and Nthanda mwana wa mwezi of the East wind and the sunrise.

These included 4 spirits of positive charges and 3 of negative charges which are Sungamwana, Dziwe Ntambamwana and Ife Zonse pulling each other to make light.

Now what is interesting is that when said in Chichewa, Tomasi’s abbreviated name is atom or should we say Atom like in the same way this author’s name would be amizere or Amizere when addressing her name in Chichewa.

Now an atom is a basic unit of matter that consists of a dense central nucleus surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons. The atomic nucleus contains a mix of positively charged protons and electrically neutral neutrons. The electrons of an atom are bound to the nucleus by the electromagnetic force.

“Likewise, a group of atoms can remain bound to each other by chemical bonds based on the same force, forming a molecule. 

"An atom containing an equal number of protons and electrons is electrically neutral, otherwise it is positively or negatively charged and is known as an ion. 

"An atom is classified according to the number of protons and neutrons in its nucleus: the number of protons determines the chemical element, and the number of neutrons determines the isotope of the element," read online sources.

Ironically there are other foreign cultures with similar myths suggesting atoms including in ancient Egypt. 


The ancient Egyptians believed that Atum was the first god to exist on earth 
and that he "rose from the waters of chaos (Nun)" just like ancient Malawians believed that Atom was the first god (mizimu) to exist on earth and that he also rose from the waters of chaos hence his current name of Napolo.

The unofficial Wikipedia online encyclopaedia describes Atum as being the 'complete one' and also the finisher of the world, which he returns to watery chaos at the end of the creative cycle. 

Now Atum in the Heliopolitan creation myth, Atum was considered to be the “first god, having created himself, sitting on a mound (benben) (or identified with the mound itself), from the primordial waters (Nu).

Of the last ancient Malawi creation myths, atoms and 'bush science'

This blog will no longer be revealing secrets told by a few female Sapitwa healers about ancient Malawi’s gods and goddesses locally known as mizimu because the rest is not for the public to know.
As more books, drawings and writings are being revealed by the healers, this blog can only research and memorize the contents.
So all the author of this blog can do is to thank all for reading the little ancient myths and tales she tried to share with the world and hope it will inspire others to also write their own myths and tales in future.
So here goes my last post revealing Sapitwa secrets thanks to Mbona healers:

The Primordial Mound locally known as the M’manga Mudzi anthill tree (chulu) somewhere in a remote village of Malawi stands out in the bush with three distinct trees growing out of it.
Hidden under it are ancient secrets of ancient times including a rumoured golden African wine kettle gourd locally known as Nsupa used by some powerful ancient kings and the only woman of ancient Malawi history to use one.

There are also some treasures of ancient kings said to be hidden in there with specific instructions that it must never be opened.

Now these kings are not the ones we know today but mizimu as in spirits or gods in the afterlife including one female goddess if this blog may call her that for lack of a better word.
Now this goddess is said to have gotten something from that mpingo tree which gave her power.  The said tree is also said to have been the one where a certain powerful spirit of ancient Malawi sprang from and the seeds of his “offspring”. 
This blog will not go into detail how that was done but only reveal that it was similar to an ancient Egypt creation myth freely posted on many websites online.
Throughout the world there are various myths and tales about creation and African countries and various ancient cultures and religions have not been spared.

This blog can only share oral stories told by some Sapitwa healers with permission but not as an endorsement but only a way of telling a story never told before.
Although many of the ancestors of this continent believed in Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God), unlike us for some reason they did not believe that one can know God personally so they would go through their ancestral spirits (mizimu yamakolo) whom they felt were closer to the Creator in their spirit form.
For unknown reasons, some ancestors of this ancient land believed that only reincarnations of gods and goddesses including Mbona in the afterlife go to the place where the Creator is while the rest join the underworld on earth but in a different astral realm.
Some would also go through winged spirits (mizimu) who have never been human to send messages and requests to the Creator whom they believed was up and beyond the sun in a far place.
Now the winged spirits who roamed the earth were viewed as “gods” and were also believed to have their own powers but not stronger than the Creator.
It’s because of these winged spirits that some rituals were performed with the gist of them being intimate acts which this blog cannot share with the public to avoid offending many fellow Malawians.

However this blog can reveal that there is a medical sign known as a caduceus which explains the exchange of power between one powerful ancient Malawi spirit and a woman.
The name of the powerful spirit (mizimu) of ancient Malawi was Tomasi Bona of the North wind responsible for black clouds and rain in various local myths.
Tomasi Bona was nicknamed Atom or atomu and his name meant he had the world in his hands and feast.  He was also known as Mbewula which for local healers means to run away so fast or get away.
They use that term because they claim Tomasi Bona is the strongest and most powerful of the seven earthly spirits in their oral tales.  He is the ancient elderly spirit with white hair which used to appear at Dziwe la Nkhalamba with clothes in various oral stories villagers in Mulanje talk about.
However they say Tomasi Bona is not Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God) whom they say is up above and beyond the sun in a place where mortal beings cannot go.
The other mizimu (spirits) are Tagoneka Mbona of the West, Chandiona Goneka of the South and Nthanda mwana wa mwezi of the East.

All these spirits involve maths and equations but the ancient Malawi equation does not include Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God).
The Creator for them remained hidden and they went through spirits to send messages including ancestral spirits and their deceased kings whom they thought became like gods. 
Now the mythical 7 mizimu of ancient Malawi were the mythical 4 winds of Sapitwa (mphepo zinayi) and Mount Mulanje among others which were a positive charge (+):
Tomasi Bona (Atom…world in his hands, feast) – North wind 
Tagoneka Mbona (we’ve put to sleep Mbona..I see) – West and sunset
Chandiona Gonekela (it’s seen me put to sleep) – South wind
Nthanda mwana wa mwezi [Nthandi] (Sirius, child of the moon) – East 
And the mythical negative charge ones (-) of water were:
Sungamwana – Keep the child
Dziwe Ntambamwana – Witchcraft pool
Ife Zonse – All of us
Now all these were drawn like this done with ufa woyera (refined white maize flour) or mapira like in sorghum but they were drawn straighter than what this blog has drawn here at a right angle. 
So from this one can do the math to calculate something similar to:
“I am One that transforms
into Two
I am Two that transforms
into Four
I am Four that transforms
into Eight
After this I am One,” about ancient Egypt’s Atum.
In ancient Egypt there was: 
  1. Shu (Air)
    2. Tefnut (Moisture)
    3. Geb (Earth)
    4. Nut (Sky)
and the four mythical ancient Egypt Netcherwy said to “have given birth to four other Netcherwy were:
  1. Ausar (the Principle of Omnipotence) also known as Osiris
    6. Aset (Female Complement of Ausar) also known as Isis
    7. Set (Principle of Opposition)

Now Tomasi Bona leads the four positive charged ones of the mountain and three negative ones of water but they rotate with one negative energy one doing good.
The four positive male charges are said to pull the three negative female ones to produce Light say healers.  This bush science is also used to explain lightning and how the mythical four winds of Sapitwa (mphepo zinayi) work.
This is the reason why Sungamwana (keep the child) of the three female negative charged ones was said to do good unlike Dziwe Ntambamwana who is said to be in the pool of Dziwe la Nkhalamba which is also viewed as a place for ziwanda (demons) who in myths guard the entrance to the other world somewhere on a rock there.

This blog has seen some drawings and books which explain the myths and tales and can only say it’s similar to the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead.
This is not the world where Chauta, Namalenga, Mphambe (God) was believed to be as Creator of the universe which for the ancestors did not only include earth.
The underworld or other world captured in some drawings shows myths and tales of a place were mizimu gods and goddesses are while the ancestral ones (mizimu yamakolo) where believed to be in different places.
The nyanga ancestral spirits were believed to become spirits depicting animals while the ones that did not practice magic were believed to appear as human beings but in a spirit form with bent and wobbly legs go some oral stories which this blog is not endorsing.
From an ancient Egypt point of view, Rita Lucarelli online in an article titled ‘The guardian-demons of the Book of the Dead’ wrote that “among the encounters of the deceased during his journey, a special place is given to those creatures who watch over certain passages that are represented as gates, portals and doors; these encounters are described in BD 144–147 (Fig. 1). Doors and door-watchers of the netherworld are also the theme of other ancient Egyptian funerary compositions.”
“For example the Book of Gates and the Book of the Night. On a broader perspective, the central role that demonic beings play for the protection of sacred liminal places located between earth and the netherworld is also well attested in other religions, be it that of ancient Mesopotamia, or modern Buddhism and Hinduism. Nonetheless, the manner in which the deceased personally interacts with the guardians of the doors, and in most of the cases engages in a direct dialogue with them, is unique to Book of the Dead spells.
“From an ontological point of view, I would define these guardian-figures as ‘demons,’ namely supernatural beings which mediate between gods and mankind. Although the term nTr or its hieroglyphic determinatives can designate the inhabitants of the netherworld and in particular the door-guardians, I think it is possible to distinguish the guardians from the gods of the official pantheon.

Tracing footsteps to lead me home

Greetings from the Warm Heart Africa, Malawi.

I'm a Malawian journalist who grew up in many countries including South Africa, Belgium, then West Germany, UK, Washington DC and New York in the US and I love New York.

Trying to come up with the production of my life and by compiling some of my 1000 poems into a book called ‘Tracing Footsteps’ to lead me Home with excellent photography.

I also plan to film award winning documentaries based on the history of this ancient land called Malawi and the mysteries of Sapitwa and the Sirius star.
